Capt. John Smith

Capt. John Smith - British Explorer along with other explorers visited the Atlantic Coast
of Maryland and made favorable descriptions and detailed maps which brought European settlers to the area.

Stephen Decatur

Stephen Decatur - American Naval War Hero War of 1812 was born in Berlin, Maryland.

Stephen Handy Long

Stephen Handy Long (1865-1921) initiated several model programs for black youth.
Tragically, he was murdered in a conflict surrounding his desire to ensure that
orphan boys used as farm laborers received the education to which they were entitled.
