Nassawango Iron Furnace & Furnace Town
Location: Snow Hill
Furnace Town is the site of the Nassawango Iron Furnace, Maryland's only bog ore furnace; it has one of the nation's earliest hot blast mechanisms still intact. Visitors enjoy a relaxing visit into 19th century village life in the heart of the Pocomoke Forest, 5 miles north of Snow Hill on the Nassawango Creek. Stroll through the village of artisan shops, including a broommaking house, blacksmith shop, smokehouse, and printshop. The Old Nazareth Church, the company store and the museum are the sites of a number of activities featuring art, music and living history. The 25-acre grounds are perfect for picnics and hikes.
Visitors can join in on a variety of activities, including occasional archaeology digs, nature walks, concerts, auctions, festivals, historical re-enactments and fairs. Open April to October, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
